today i took some wire cutters and cut off the metal grill which protects me from putting my fingers into the case fan. the air flow is now at least 10x as much and my CPU temp went from 61C down to 50C :D

sort of makes ya wonder why that grill is even there in the first place ;)

I hope you put one of those wire finger guards on after you cut the hole.....

you don't want your gerbil to get out....

don't you mean i don't want the gerbil to get IN?
anyway, if the gerbil tried to enter that way, he'd get gashed by the fan real good. poor little guy :(

wondered that myself some time back. dremeled mine out and it lowered temps by a few degrees. not much but something. seems to double air flow

Unless you've gone way overkill and installed Vantec Tornado's, in which case you'll most definately lose some meat off your digits.

Some retailers (Dell, Gateway...) have already designed cases that have really thin grills in the back...

Are they a step ahead?....nope!:p

Thought it would make a difference, use to cut the grill off the plastic low front fan holder, since my temps were always good haven't needed to cut the sheet metal but wouldn't hesitate if I had to.

unless you've done away with all of your little plastic fans and replaced them with metal ones....
a Pabst 80mm 240VAC fan can rip a finger right off....

I've brused the ends of mine a few times.
