I want to be able to download all the current Windows XP updates and Service Pack 1 and keep them on my second hard drive. So when i reformat i wont have to keep re-downloading the updates each time.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks in advance

Always try Here (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/results.aspx?productID=4C937A02-BAE0-4317-A1A9-0C56CD979D05&freetext=&DisplayLang=en)
It will take awhile, you have to click on every link.

In my opinion, the only update you need is service pack 1.

yes is possible and easy

that's how IT Manager does it at any Office place

instead of using WindowsUpdate

you just download all the stuff manually
and save it

then whenever you need it, just install them all

for the service pack, you would need to download the network install version.

sort of, the problem is in the FTP everything is in Q#########.exe

so unless you know what is the file you want

you'll have to be a very good guesser :D

on a side note, i don't even know if they keep that FTP up to date anymore

I have the original XP with no updates, and no issues.

If you are using a 56K connection, you better do that.

I have AOL 56K; never had a problem.

One of the reasons that I do not update is because I have read some scary things about Microsoft's "Service Packs".

They promote them in a misleading manner.

They always seem to mention security as the main issue, but apparently these SP's just give their servers more control over one's O/S.

I will try to find the article that describes in detail how Microsoft has 19 ways to control one's PC.
