I bought a Benq 48x16x48 CDRW burner a couple months ago. Everything was fine until recently. Instead of taking 2 minutes to burn a 700 MB CD, here is what happens...
I burn in 'disc-at-once' mode using Nero Burning Rom. The burner gets to about 5% progress with the burn and then it starts doing crazy ****. It audibly revs up loudly, louder than it is supposed to; because it never revved up that loud before. The progress stops. It revs up and abruptly stops. It revs up again, loudly, and stops. Does this for a while. Gradually, the CD burns. But instead of 48x (like 6-7 MB/sec), it burns at 1-4x, varying from 50 to 100 KB/sec. Kilobytes, dammit! In others words-- Slow as Hell. And it makes those horrible sounds the whole time. So... I come back after 15-20 minutes to see that my CD is finished. But of course it doesn't work. I pop it in a CD player and not **** happens. But that is only when the CD actually finishes burning. Half the time there is an error during the burn.
Here is whatever useful info I can think of to help you guys help me:
The buffer is 2 MB.
In the drive's properties, I have Disconnect and Auto Insert Notification checked. I do not have Sync Data Transfer or DMA checked. I don't really know what the effect of those things are.
I DO have the firmware/drivers up to date.
Please help me!
Thanks
