Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the best free MP3 decoder is, and where I can download it? I want a decoder to to convert my MP3s to .wav files.
I was thinking about using WinAmp. Is WinAmp good, or should I use something else?
Thank you very much,
-Karl

The best one I've ever used (and it's free for the lite version) is Siren Jukebox. It's awesome! Very simple, but very powerfull! It has great sound quality and comes with a ripper that copys to both WMA, and MP3! It also reads WMA wich is a good format for ripping CD's to. On the down side it's 16MB's to download. Wich isn't bad if you or a friend has Cable or something.
I don't so I'm usuing Sonique. I lost Siren during a format. And so I needed a program to run MP3's and WMA's. I tried Winamp, and a few others. But sonique teamed up with audiograbber (for ripping) worked great for me! Sonique is very graphical (it has cool swishing effects that you have to see), and has pretty nice sound quality! give it whirl if you can't get Siren.

Siren is definitly the best but the free
version gives only a limited number of rips:

I use Shibatch mpg123 ver1.18 plugin for Winamp. Read about the mpg123.dll here. (http://privatewww.essex.ac.uk/~djmrob/mp3decoders/decoders_winampmpg123.html)

Simple for my 2 cents. Very small download, and very simple to use, lets you encode/decode Mp3 to wave, wave to Mp3, but the player sucks bad.

I've just been using MightyDAC . Wave to Mp3 sounds really good and clear without distortion but when ripped to CD's there seems to be a decrease in Volume but I'm not sure if it's Nero.
