I just looked up my internet usage for last month, With my Dial-up account I download 654mb last month and already clocked up over 300mb this month and it's only half-way through, dam I never would've thought I'd have come close to this much. I'm resilient to download 3Dmark2001 cause it's 30mb+ and I download at least that much every night....
Man I just can't get over that. I'm lucky my ISP changed the internet plans around and I've got unlimited cause it used to be 200mb limit with 30c for every mb over.......

.30/MB GEEZ! I guess I'd have the national debt here, 'cause it seems like that's all I ever do is download software and MP3's (did I say that out loud?)

Well, i don't know if they have it in Australia, but the july issue of PC gamer has 3dmark 2001 on it. So that way you could get a cool magazine and the program. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

No such thing at US. I download 300 MB a day sometimes !!! Pity Australia people need to pay for limited download.

In the U.S. most isps are unlimited, but with fineprint. Most isps have fine print that if you go over a certain amount in a month, they tack on some hidden charges. For most people this is no problem at all. I'm sure most are at least a gig.
DSL sometimes has upload limits(to keep you from running a server.)
So, sometimes it does pay to read the fineprint. Even though I never do.

****, that's rough! I pay $10 american a month for unlimited usage, downloads, and haven't had a problem getting online in 3 months! Of course that's still dialup. Cable is $40 a month...

I've never heard of that either... of course I did just leave from Germany not long ago..they're eons away from DSL...now that I've had it for a month or two...I could NEVER go back to Dial-up!! MP3's in 3-4 minutes on a SLOW day! God bless the USA http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Most of the ISP's here in AUS offer "unlimited access" but have restrictions of about 300Mb/month in downloads. Go over your limit and they hit you with a bill. Varies slightly amongst ISP's.
Unlimited does not mean unlimited. Access is also in 4 hour blocks. After being on-line for 4 hrs, my ISP boots me off and I have to re-connect. (if there's a free line)
I download 650MB Dark Angel episodes every week... I don't have any problems http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

My best score was 1,5 GB in one day!!! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif
Oh boy the folks at the university (who kinda own this network) feel so sorry for installing it here... haahahaha.... (I have a LAN-based connection that costs basicly nothing, its included in my rent)

I've never heard of Internet usage being paid by how much you download per month?
Is it something that happens just in Australia or the US?

Wow! Do I feel spoiled! My record is 21GB in one month. Total cost - $39.95US for 1.5Mbps/128Kbps ADSL.

Thats really strange that Australia has this charge on downloads!
I'm with one of the 'free' ISP's, well it used to be 'free' (just paying for the local phone call) but now there are various options. I'm on the one where it costs £8.99 per month ($12.60) and you get connected between 6pm and 8am for 'free' and all weekend with no charge for phone calls. The ISP gets £3 of this and the telephone company the remainder.
For £14.99 per month ($21) you can connect 24 hrs a day for 'free'. You are booted off both these ways after two hours but it's easy enough to reconnect.
ASDL is £39.99 a month ($56) so its still quite dear.

Actually most of the accounts are called 'unlimited access' which means you can be online as long as you like as long as you don't D/l more than 300mb in that time, they then charge 30c for each mb over you limit. I've got the same kinda plan as linux_guru, I get booted off after 4hrs but now have unlimited d/l's. The most I've d/led on this 56k is 150mb in one day. That was a UT mod a fair while ago. Cable is quite expensive and so is ADSL if you can get it where you live. I live in a suburb a few hundred km's from sydney. The best I can get is Satellite and that's twice the price as DUN.

4.34GB's over the last few hours and still have a couple of GB's to go. Dang multimeadia stuff is killing my poor hard drives and burner. Oh, and I have uploaded about a 1.23GB's so far too. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif
Off to go buy some more CDR's soon, 50 just don't last long anymore. Gotta love FTP and FXP.
