I'm going to get a new power supply in about a half hour. What size should I get? I'm thinking maybe more than 300 watts, what the heck? Isn't it better to have a little more than not? and better than to have to upgrade in a year?

i dont know it this will make your time limit but more watts will just satisfy you for longer, go for it. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Of course it all depends on the computer.(if you will need it) I'm guessing it quite new.

I think 300W will be more than adequate for most users. My system's pretty loaded with devices and not to mention 2 x 120mm fans, 2 x 80mm fans, Bay Cooler fans which have 2 60mm fans, etc and I haven't seen my power supply twitch once. The power holds quite steady from diagnosing through MBM5.

Here's my system spec:

* Dual Pentium 3 FC-PGA 850E @ 939Mhz (FOP32)
* Abit VP6 Dual Mainboard (VIA chipset (VT82C694X and VT82C686B)
* Micronics 9010a Server/Workstation Case
* SevenTeam ST-300GL 300W PSU
* 1GB Samsung PC-133 CL2 SDRAM (4 x 256MB)
* Suma Platinum GTS (SE) 5.5ns 64MB DDR
* Creative Sounblaster PCI-128
* Adaptec 29160N Ultra-160 SCSI Adapter
* SCSI Seagate 18.4GB Ultra-160 Cheetah 10,000rpm
* EIDE WD 13.6GB UDMA66 7,200rpm
* EIDE Maxtor 30.6GB UDMA100 7,200rpm

Oohh , power supplies I was wondering where this thread was headed. (dang My dirty mind)

Well on that subject I would say ndc has got it right. the extra power from a 400 would be nice ,but would you actually need it. also last time I checked the price was still a little steep for a 400.

If you're gonna run several CD's, LS-120, Zip Drives, 6 Fans, then MAYBE you need 300+ watts.

Remember the modern CPU's draw Less power than earlier models.

waste not, want not

OUCH!! No kidding it was a little steep, but I bit. I figure OK 50 now and 50 later. (ain't been that long since 250 was the going rate)
Or ouch now.. and it's still OK later. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
Oooh ow oooh ow. So I went with 400 watts.
OK I'm fine now. Wish me luck! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Bsdboy, yeah I picked it up looked at it wiped my drool off of it, stroked it a little more, sighed, slowly walked away and bought one 1/2 the price..sigh
But it sure was sweet http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
