I recently was given a copy of WindowsME and decided to install it--just to see how it worked.

In a lot of ways I was favorably impressed. I like the updated GUI look (Very Win2K related obviously) and the boot-up time is excellent--my machine goes from power-on to fully booted in 12 seconds.

However, certain functions and operations don't seem quite as stable--and I've seen a touch of glitching in certain games that didn't seem to be there before.

So what's the verdict? I'd prefer it if only WinME users from a clean-install responded here--I know upgrades from previous OSses are often troublesome and you can't trust an OEM configuration either.

For my PC's case, WinMe's working just fine. Sure, there'd be some stability problems but generally it's been better sailing. For almost 6 months now I haven't seen a BSOD. At least not one's I induced by popping a CD out while it's reading for instance.

I guess it's classic Microsoft, fix the previous version's bugs and incorporate new ones. Must be their business strategy, now that it's passed my mind. All the better to force us on to the more expensive Win2K and the upcoming XP.
