I have an Epox 8KTA3 and am real happy with it. It is very stable and easy to set up too.
newegg.com has them for $90 + 10 shipping.

Kite...

I would have to agree with elroy. I purchased the EP-8KTA2 (http://www.epox.com/html/english/products/motherboard/ep-8kta2.htm) (NOT the "L") at Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?submit=manufactory&catalog=22&manufactory=1318) for $80+$5 shipping, just for the ISA slot, for a friend. Everything set-up and runs smooth. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Hope this helps....

There are so many to choose from:

Abit, Asus, AOpen, Epox, Gigabyte, Soyo, Fic, etc. Any one of these will do the job.

An extremely good quality inexpensive mainboard with sound and video is the ECS K7VMA they go for $80-90 shipped, setup easy, use 8MB of your RAM for the video, but for the price, you can afford to add a 256MB stick of PC133 and still be within your budget!
Axion has them for $74 plus shipping

On Sale: $54.95 Product Code: MESI256PC133 Buy | Info
INFINEON:256MB PC133, 256MB PC-133, 7.5NS, CAS3, 168, GOLD CONTACTS, LIFETIME WARRANTY
http://www.axiontech.com/

Axion is a good company to deal with! As far as the mainboard, I've built over 30 machines with this board, never a problem, never a complaint!

"Integrated video & sound" and "good quality" are sadly often mutually exclusive. They're great if all you use are mostly business and internet applications with some light gaming. However, since you specifically stated that it's for game playing, go with a separate video and soundcard.

Integrated video usually steals some system RAM and also competes with the CPU for RAM access. Separate video card have their own RAM and don't put this burden on the system's memory. Plus it's easy to upgrade the video card at a later time.

Integrated sound is usually just an on-board audio codec. All of the sound processing is done by the CPU, causing an overall system slowdown. A separate soundcard, even a cheap one, does most of it's own sound processing, freeing up the CPU to do other tasks.

Since you'll be spending about $100 on the motherboard, that will leave you with about $50 for the video and sound. You can get a no-name Geforce2MX card for a little over $50. This will run circles around ANY integrated video solution.

Uh oh... there's no more left for your soundcard http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif! Well... beg, borrow, or steal for a few more bucks. I happen to like my Phillips Rhythmic Edge that I bought for $30.

Thank you a bunch danu but i found out that i may be able to free up a little more money. I will use the computer for some gaming but mostly surfing the web and just maybe playing some games on the web. What do you think i should get now.

Since your needs aren't very demanding, then an integrated mobo should be fine.

Don't settle for 64MB. Ram is so cheap now that you should get at least 128MB.

well could you change out some intergrated sound and video

Hellmund

Nah that integrated video is in there for good and you don't get an AGP slot, you could put a PCI Vidcard in later but it won't run as fast as it's AGP equivalent and they tend to be a bit more expensive too. I'm not sure whether you could disable the integrated sound and put another card in, although I used to use a ISA SoundBlaster 16 when I had an integrated board and to use that instead of the built-in thing. You could also pick up some cheap older soundcards at computer fairs as well, I got my mom a SB16 and it cost me $5(Australian) which is roughly $2.30 Us.

From Duron 500MHz to Thunderbird 1.5GHz and higher, get the Iwill KK266 Socket A board with excellent on-board audio. It will cost about $120.00 but will las a long time as it's very upgradable <u>and</u> a great overclocking board.

Kite,
I can't find the motherboard you are talking about in that link. Could you be a little more clear? Also, about how much money are you working with total now? We could probably get you a motherboard, sound card, and video card for about $200 that would be a lot better than an all-in-one integrated motherboard for $150.

My only comment here is that the Motherboards Forum is a better place to look for input about these things.
