Dear Members:

Was using Biostar 440BX board with 333 MHz Celly, then replaced mobo with Aopen 440BX board. Worked great for month or two. Original ATX 250W PSU died, so I bought new generic 250W ATX PSU. I cabled it up and NOTHING! The fan doesn't even turn on in the PSU! Any ideas? I'm very confused. I turned the switch to "on" in the back of PSU. HELP! Am I missing something?

Thx.

PS: Any way to test a ATX PSU w/o having it cabled to a mobo?

sometime's the answer is right in front of us. http://www.sysopt.com/articles/troubleshoot/index.html
if memory serves me correctly you can also run a jumper from the green wire to a black.

I'll echo Brangwen's Green-Black to turn on an ATX PSU w/o a mobo. (The link to more info is inactive right now.)

These things seem to have a mind of their own. I've been <u>sure</u> the supply was dead, only to find it worked OK after a 12-24 hour opportunity to recover from ( ? ).

I've had mobo/PSU combos that were strangely disagreeable. The PSU running my system at this moment was NG in my previous system. Go figure!

Make sure you have the two power supply plugs going to the mobo correct if you get them reversed the power supply usually won't come on at not even the fan.

Try hooking up just the power supply to the motherboard and nothing else. See if it will turn on then. If not then it's probably just a bad power supply and needs to be replaced. On the other hand if it fires up, then you may have had something else plugged into it that was not seated correctly or causing it to hang up.

nunyadam:

Thank you for pointing out that link by Scott. Looks like just what the doctor ordered! I ran a Search at SysOpt and saw the green to black wire tip, but the article that nunyadam directed me too is a bitr more comprehensive.

Thx.

The tip (in Scott's article) about testing PSU worked great. I used a paperclip and connected diagramed wires in mobo PSU plastic socket. PSU came on, as did all IDE drives. Probably a shorted board. I'll yank it out of case, set it on wood and start from scratch. Interesting.
