Okay, I just put together my gaming rig. I've got a Athlon 1GHz CPU, Iwill KA266-6 mobo, 256mbs of DRR, and a Geforce 2 MX card. 300W power supply. When I try to power it up I get nothing. The hard disk makes some sound and the light comes on the HD. Everything seems to power up correct I just don't get a video signal to the monitor and it just does not do anything. Its just dead like http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif. Any ideas of something I could be forgetting?

Hi Mark,
Not knowing how many systems you have built ok and just throwing an idea out. If you are getting nothing at all, not even error beeps etc or a start up post, the cpu may not be installed correctly. I've only seen this twice with friends & their intel systems.
As long as the h/drive was getting pwr it would come on as you say. If the vid card was not inserted properly I would have thought there would be some sort of beep at start up or beeps if an error was detected with ram or vid etc.
You could check to make sure there are not posts etc under the board that are in the wrong place shorting out the m/b (I did that once - red faced after that one.)

Okay, thanks. I'm going to check the CPU now, although I'm pretty sure its innstalled correctly. I've got the mobo out of the case sitting on a nice soft bad so I know its not shorting it out. I'll keep trying. I've probably built 20-25 systems in the past 5 years and I'm going to guess this maybe a problem with the mobo and not an error that I'm making http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif I'm still open to ideas though, maybe I have forgot something.

Okay, here is the latest report http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif I tried another video card just to make sure it was not that. Both cards have been AGP though. Is it possible that Iwill has some enable AGP setting on the mobo that I need to change? I would think that it would find it without that. I've never used an Iwill mobo before is the reason I ask.

If the AGP is not the problem, which I doubt it is, then I'm going to have to figure out if I need to send back the mobo or the CPU. And I'm not exactly sure how to tell which one is not working correct. I need more ideas http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Like yourself I doubt if it the AGP setting, most new m/boards have the AGP/PCI setting in the bios. The jumpers on m/b's I've seen for video are set to Auto with an option for 1:1 or 2:3 etc but the auto should be ok for at least a post at boot up.
Is the pwr supply plugged in all the way on the m/board?
Is there a bent pin on the monitor connector?

Okay, this is weird. I got it to boot to the BIOS screen. Of course that didnt do me a lot of good because I had the keyboar/mouse jumper disabled on the mobo. So I was pretty happy it actually did something. I reset the CMOS with the jumper tried booting and it didnt work, so I tried once more and that is when it worked. Of course then I was happy with myself so I shutdown and enable the keyboard/mouse and try booting and it does not work again. So I disable the keyboard and mouse again and try booting to see if that will work and it still won't boot. So I have no idea what the deal is now.

I guess there is hope though if it was able to power up once, maybe it can do it again http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

having built a number of system's myself I would still suggest reading this (http://www.sysopt.com/buildpc/)
double check all conections.
make sure the heatsink is properly installed.
I don't understand why you would disable the keyboard and mouse? the problem has happened with and without it so it should not be the problem.
is the power supply up to snuff?

are you starting with the minimum #of parts?(vid, hard drive, memory)try it with just the basic's. eliminating all the extra's will help narrow down the search for the problem.
just give it enough part's to post and work your way up.

keep us posted . we will help you figure it out.

when a cpu goes online sysopt rejoices (and hope it crack's RC-5 for the team)

p.s. sounds like it will be a sweet system when it's done.
