Hey people,

I just ransacked a comp at work and was able to get some more ram and another hdd for my work comp. The ram is in with no problems, but I am having difficulty getting the second hdd recognized in Win98se. The bios sees the drive with no issue and I have the jumpers set to master and slave with my original hdd as the master and the confiscated hdd as the slave.

I saw the device driver start up at one point, but the second hdd is not on my computer. Checked device manager and saw the two drives. Checked properties for each and saw that the second hdd has no drive letters associated with it. My primary has two partitions (C and D).

Do I need to format the second hdd before Win98se recognizes it or is there something in win that I have to do to get the second drive a letter?

you need to partition the second drive before windows will see a drive letter. you can format the drive from dos or windows after you partition it.

btw, the second drive's first partition will become D:, then your second partition on the first drive will become E:
