DVD: Ricoh 9060A "Combo" 6x4x4x32 write/rewrite/dvd/cdrom

decoder: software cinemaster. My Duron has plenty of horsepower to do software decoding, as do most 500+ MHz CPUs.

Hitachi GD-2500 8x, region unlocked of course http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

For playback, I use PowerDVD v3 for software decoding since it offers excellent support for my GF-2 GTS's motion compensation routine.

I also have a Toshiba SD-C2402 in my notebook, again hacked to unlock the region. Something like 6x, if memory serves me right. Again, I use PowerDVD for playback.

Catch ya' later,

I have 12X AOpen DVD, Power DVD, and a Annihilator PRO GeForce DDR. It works great! I love the visual quality!

Hey DanU. Did you mean you run DVD's under software? The quality is really degraded if you do. I'm probably just miss understanding what you said.

Hitachi GD-2500
Radeon LE (tweaked and clocked)

I used software decoding before I got my Radeon, and it sucks compared to hardware decoding! Also, the hardware decoding took a big load off the processor (900Bird).

Toshiba DVD-ROM sd-c2402 (Integrated into my satellite pro 4600). Works great with this celeron proc =) Generally decoder cards aren't needed for anything else but digital sound (right?).

Affrey 12X DVD... not bad for generic...
Creative Dxr3 Decoder... Relabeled Hollywood Plus

I would reccomend a decoder card, just so you can do other things while watching a movie, almost all 500 MHz + chips can decode okay, but not while doing something else.

But why would you want to do something else while watching a movie? I can understand writing a poem while listening to music but not something like playing cs while watching terminator =)

BOB, the software I use is Ravisent "Software Cinemaster", but it's most commonly just called "Cinemaster".

I also use DVDGenie to enable the GeForce optimizations in Cinemaster, so it's not running in 100% software mode.

Before I was running a Duron + GF2MX, I had a celeron + ATI Rage128. IMO, the Rage128 did play DVD's a little better.

Toshiba SD-M1402 12x drive and inbuilt decoding in rage 128 graphics card. Play back is supperb.
need less to say the drive is cracked region free and dvd genie takes care of the hassles of win2k demanding the right region.

16x Pioneer DVD slot drive

This drive is the greatest. Reasons I got this drive: (a)good, reliable drive (reviews); (b)everyone told me to get it and (c) I was originally attracted to it because of the sexy slot
