Hi.
I go to another board about British Rallying and a topic started up over there regarding speed camera's and it brought something quite shocking to me. People are annoyed when they are caught breaking the law.
They think the speed limits are there to be broken and that they shouldn't be caught when the break them. They think that a speed camera is just a way to make more money out of the motorist, they refuse to see that they are breaking a law and are been caught doing so.
I knew this was the popular viewpoint but I can't beilive how many people hold this view and are prepared to break the law. It really does shock me. They throw comments at me regarding the "speed kills" campaign and how it is all wrong and how I don't know any of the facts and I am ignorant but they refuse to see they are breaking a law and are caught, I really don't understand.
I don't want another argument here, I really don't, mainly because I don't want this thread closed. All I want to know is peoples opinions on speed camera's. Does America have speed cameras? I really don't know.

"If ya wann playa, ya gotta pay."
Sure we have cameras for speeders and at toll bridges. Always cracks me up when I'm riding with friends who don't pay tolls..Someday they'll get caught and wish they weren't drinking that beer at the same time.

I have no problem with that
heck if you broke the law, is your fault, the cops and the camera are just doing their job
:t
if ya don't wanna get caught, then don't make a fool out of yourself making illegal actions

With a mountain bike as my main mode of transport id be pretty chuffed if i got a speeding fine :D
As for speed limits, i think those who wantonly break them in built up and urban areas where things are cramped and there are kids about are prats and deserve wahts coming to em, however i dont see the harm when your out on the A689 and the like late at night and the roads clear in puttign your foot down a bit, if your gonna harm anyone its most likely goign to be youself. Although im not qualified to drive i liek cars with a bit of grunt and power and i dare say i'll get clocked for speeding a few times in my life, however to go speeding around towns and built up areas is stupid and deserves to be punished, in quieter areas though where your not harming anyone i see no problem.

I don't like the cams. They can't usually prove who was driving, so the registered owner gets a ticket. What if it wasn't you driving? Hmmm,, should be outlawed.
I can't drive 55 either, but I can and do drive 155:D

OMG, I didn't realise camera's were that sneaky. Good thing in my opinion - catch more people.
Nice to know people have the same attitude towards it as I. thanks.

Theres a culb in Germany that scouts out the positions of speed cameras and basically torches em, saw it on telly a while ago... freedom fighting motorists

Speed cameras (at least fixed speed cameras) are about making money.
I Live in New South Wales, near Sydney. NSW has recently installed hundreds of new fixed cameras, guess what...
none that I have ever seen were in school zones.
I would whole-heartedly support speed cameras if they were to be shown to be in the interest of public safety, so far I haven't seen any sign of that.

I agree that maybe they aren't in the interests of safety and maybe they are designed to make money but the simple fact is - the person is breaking the law and is caught, doesn't matter where it happens.
Maybe camera's aren't needed outside schools, I rarely see people been daft around school kids, well sometimes.

No, they don't use speed cameras here, only radar.
Speed cameras sound great to me.
So they make money, great, that will be less tax I will have to pay.
I say let the speeders and other law breakers pay all the taxes.:t

Here in sunny sunny poolie land, home of the monkey hanging massive there has been a hell of a lot fo whining because the police keep settign up speed trps on motorways and the 'fast' areas of the town, mainly the suburban areas leading out of town where there is very little traffic/people. The police at the moment are using cameras as cashcows rather than to ensure public safety which is what they should be used for, i would much rather have someone pushing the speedlimit out on the open road where theyre more likely to hurt themselves than others than putting their fut down outside of a primary school because they know they can get away with it

Arkie,
Only if that were true.
NSW use speed cameras as a subsititute for law enforcement.
As far as saving taxpayers money...ha.
Australia has one of the highest tax rates in the world.

Totally ineffective aginst the camera, by the time it senses the camera you are already had.
BUT, what a magnificent opportunity for a new device...image a device that will detect the presence of radar or a camera and send a high frequency bolt back to the spy along the same path and FRY that sucker! Not long befor they would be out of money for replacements.
The one place it won't work is VASCAR...I was nailed in Colorado some years ago on the flat strech leading to Kansas. They have lines painted across the roadway and an airplane overhead CLOCKS you between the two lines, Sneaky B@stards, no?
