another question for my gaming purposes. My friends all have cable modems offered in their area but I don't; so I'm stuck with a dial up. the problem is that they have the same ip address and when I want to host games everybody needs to call me for my ever changing ip address. any way to get a constant ip address? probably through TCP/IP and instead of having an assigned ip address, change it to the one i want. Will this work, sounds too simple.

You can get a static ip if you want. And yes you enter it in the tcp/ip settings, but you will have to get it assigned to you from your isp, and it will probably cost you extra. ISP's like to give everyone dynamic ip's using their dhcp servers. This allows them to have more members than they have alotted ip addresses, since not everyone is online at the same time.

You could also get one of those IP Masking software or what's it called =), That would like turn your domain into slam.dyns.net, etc, so then you wouldnt have an ever changing IP. I know there was a place called Detour.net that did that, im sure there are others.

On a sidenote, I had just gotten member status on my old name.. then it got deleted or whatever when Sysopt was having problems. Oh well, More posts =)

Need to start spell-checking before i Submit
