I just cleared the history in IE and when i push the tab to see all the pages i've went to its empty like it should be BUT when i type in www. lets say www.s (http://www.s) it will show all the sites i've been to like sharkyextreme.com
so i cleared history again and stilll the same problem. My question is how can i totally clear history (i dont remember this ever happening on other computers) or manually delete the sites in history.
example if go to pricewatch.com i can double click on the search bar and all the things i've searched for will be there and i can highlight and press delete to delete them. This doesn't work with sites in history but something like that.
did u clear ur cookies? try that

Uner the Advanced tab in internet options, disable Use inline Autocomplete for Web addresses.

Ok, do this...
Internet options-> content ->personal information ->autocomplete... Uncheck the "web addresses" box

Checkout my comment about Index.dat files and others: http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum9/HTML/004399.html
But you probably have default settings on your IE, right? Arrrrgghh!!!
My tips to your IE settings:
- General / settings / every visit to page
- General / days to keep history / 0
- Security / internet / disable ALL active-X (you can add sites where you REALLY need them to your "trusted sites"), cookies that are stored to your computer -disable, per-session cookies -allow, Java permissions - high safety, Installation of desktop items -disable, Software channel permissions - high safety, Userdata persistance - disabled, Active Scripting - disabled, User authentication -prompt for user name / password.
- Content / autocomplete -disable ALL (remember to clear both passwords and forms NOW)
- Advanced / disable following: Install on demand, Offline items to be synchronized, Use inline autocomplete, Profile assistant, Fortezza, PCT, SSL2.
- Advanced / Make sure you have the following enabled: Use http1.1, JIT complier for virtual machine, Check for publishers certificate revocation, Check for server certificate revocation, Do not save encrypted pages to disk, Empty temporary internet files when browser is closed, SSL3, TLS, Warn about invalid site certificates, Warn if forms submittal is being redirected.
That should keep you pretty safe... IF and ONLY if you keep updating your Windozer... (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/)

Thanks, but genius may be going a little too far.
If you recheck those boxes, those web addresses will still be there. If you still want the autocomplete feature, but just want to get rid of the listings, recheck those boxes. After you do that, go back to the autocomplete in Content and click "clear forms." Also click "clear history" in General tab. That shoud take care of it.

Here's a good ZDNet article on autocomplete at PCMagazine.
