Looking for a mish-mash of Gaming Enthusiasts and Graphic Arts professionals to answer this question.

I've decided the next system is going to be geared towards 3D art and content creation, so the need for a decent workstation graphics card was necessary. That said, I think I've come to the conclusion that saving up and getting the $900 Wildcat VP990 would be the best idea, I know it has at least mid-range capabilities where FPU and rendering are concerned, however, I was wondering how it faired in the gaming market, as I'm known to play a game or three from time to time.

Granted that, I don't believe the VP990 is powered exclusively towards OpenGL as their previous Wildcat cards have been but I'm uncertain, I was curious how well this card would do in todays newer games and wondered how well they do

No, I'm not looking for top performance, but at least a 10 grand in 3DMark 2001SE would be nice, but not necessary, any takers to this question?

Hi,

I am into alot of graphics rendering (poser, maya) and 3D modeling (Rhino, wings) myself. The VP990 is an excellent choice!
I like having the 512 MB as opposed the 128 MB my buddie has on his Nvidia Quadro FX 1000!

I play games on my machine however, I wouldn't call them high intensity. Ages of Empires age of kings and the conquerors are not really high energy. But the VP 990 does sport Direct X 8.1 and I don't know how that will fair in the newer games coming out.

Right now a VP990 is going for $818.00 at newegg.
