Okay my buddy's computer has an MSI ti4200 vid card, along with 512 2100 ram, 1600+. His score on 3dmark 2003 is only a little above 1000, he has 40.72 driver's. An MSI KT4 xl, (somethen like that) mobo I was trying to help him, but none of my idea's are working. So what you guys think is wrong with it, his old card was a gf2, and im not sure he chaged the bios since he had that card, that might be a problem

Thats about right to me, 3dmark 2003 is very very tough on systems, even a 3ghz system with a radeon 9700 will only get about 5000 marks. If you want some nice ego boostign numbers run 3dmark 2001 on it instead

just wondering, then why did my buddy's card ( gf3 ti 500) card score higher then a GF4 ti 4200 on almost the identical system.

Has he got the latest mobo drivers installed, that usually helps, also has he got his BIOS settings tweaked out?

Ya i cant remember seeing a score higher than 6000. But with the older geforces dont expect very high scores because 3dmark 2003 uses direct 9 mostly and the old geforces dont support dx9.

btw 3dmark means nothing, what u should care about is how the games you play everyday perform.

Yup, so true, especially given the ongoing mud hurling match between Futuremark, Ati and Nvidia with each company accusing one and other of cheating and faking scores blah blah blah

Just take what works best in what you intend to use the card for

hmmm, i dont use 3dmark, i use glexcess and i score about 8500 with the asylum ti 4200. i will try 3d2003 and see if i score higher than 1000. also, it could be the way the card was setup, i boosted my score 800 points by tweaking and then another 600 by oc'ing.

Well the problem is you're using 3dmark03 which is designed for the latest DX9 cards, and the Ti4200 is a DX8 card. Anyone without a DX9 card should stick with 3dmark2k1 SE... It will give you a much better idea of how well the system is performing since it will be able to do ALL the tests.

The only FX worth its salt is the 5900, all of the FX's from the 5600 downward are easily outperformed by the gf4's, only advantage they have is DX( hardware support, you would have been better getting s radeon 9500pro/9700pro

BryanM, there is a patch you need to install for 3dMark2001.
