Alright, this system is actually for my sister, because she's going off to college in 3 months. For her system, I got:
Abit KT7A motherboard
AMD Duron 850 MHz (no plans to OC)
Vantec FCE-62540D HS/Fan seen here (http://www.coolerguys.com/CPUCOOL/Duron.htm)
300 Watt AMD approved PS

Now, my question is: I'm reading the instructions for the HS/Fan, and it says to power this fan off the main power supply, not the mobo fan headers. Ok, fine. But how do I monitor the speed of the fan? Using the 3 wire to 4 wire adapter means the fan cannot be controlled by the hardware monitor. What I was thinking of doing is taking the 2 power wires (+12V and ground), and soldering them to 4 wire extender. That will supply the fan with power. Then I take the tachometer sensor, and plug it alone (other wires being cut) into the mobo fan header. At this point, I would have power to the fan, and a working sensor. That's my idea. Has anyone tried this? And if so, does it work? Also, if anyone's got a better idea, let me know. (If anyone wants drawing posted about what I'm trying to do, let me know and I'll post them).

Don't bother going through all that trouble. The fan headers on the Abit KT7A supply more than enough power for the fan. The Delta draws nearly 3.5w, whereas the mobo supplies 6w. So you will be perfectly safe plugging the HSF into the FAN1 header.

Ok, so either way this will work. I can plug it into the mobo FAN1 or do a little rewiring. Cool. Thanks for your help.
