Ok I just bought C&C Generals (great game) and when get it home I thought it wouldn't work on my computer at all. I go down to living room knowing my parent's have the best computer in the house which is a HP. loaded it on their computer and it didn't work due to Prosavage km266 shared video. So I say okay to myself and go back to my room and load it on my computer so once it's done i try to see if it works and yes it does hurray. Now here is the problem. Here is my computer's specs
1GHz celeron coppermine no O/C
256MB of ram running at PC100 (one is a stick of PC133)
32x CD Drive
20GB hardrive with 4.3GB of space left
Intel's AGP shared 82810 graphics
Problem is that when I play the game with graphics on high it's slow. Now when I put it's graphics down to low it is still slugish as before
Now i believe the reason for this is becasue of the intel graphics card in it which responds to how much the program reguires of memory to run than take that much of memory from the computer and use it
before someones say will get AGP video card thie is where emachines stabs you in the back THERE IS NO SLOT  which stinks. And I also do not know if generals will run with PCI graphics card
so does anyone know of a program to mess with card in this machine
Thankz

How much shared Memory is on the system 16 meg 32? let me know I may have a fix for you if its what I think it is.

For this system it use the 82810 graphics which when the application or program reguire more graphics memory than it take it from main memorey and uses it for the program. There is no way to set how much shared memory it uses. just to let people know C&C Generals use 32MB of video ram just to run it.

Dude, that system will get you nowhere
not even with upgrades
what you need is a new AMD XP computer + 512 meg of ram, and a decent video card, at least ATI 9000 or better

Well it looks like i am going to have to totally build a whole new computer.

Minimum required specs for C&C Generals:
OS: Anything newer than 98 (95/NT not supported)
CPU: 800 MHz PIII or AMD Athlon
Ram: 128mb
CD/DVD: 8x
Harddrive Space: 1.8Gb plus space for saved games, swapfile, and DX 8.1
Video: 32 MB AGP video card using Nvidia GF2, ATI Radeon 7500, or more recent chipset with DX 8.1 compatible driver.
Sound: DX 8.1 compliant
Recommended:
1.8 Gb or faster PIV or AMD, 256mb ram, GF3 or more recent Direct3D capable video card.
Dude, you better try out the 'Recommended' column because my AMD1.2GB Thunderbird Athlon PC can't play C&C Generals. The whole game will hang when you play for ten minutes. The processor can't support the graphics. I think!

Here's my system specs. And Generals occasionally gets laggy.
Especially when 20 tanks are blowing away the ai's base.
XP 1800+ Palomino @ 2000+
Epox 8k3a+
MSI GF4 Ti4200 128mb @ Ti 4400 speeds
Creative X-Gamer Live 5.1
Windows XP Pro
Corsair 512mb XMS Pc2700
180 Gigs of Hard drive space (2 drives)
DirectX 9.0a

nah your system is fine
but 1 thing is true, all 3D strategical games will eventually get laggy, after MILLIONS of tanks are on the screen attacking
just imagine the kind of CPU and GPU power needed to pull off the movement of all those tanks :D
lol, when i play online you can say i kinda cheat
we always build so much stuff so fast and keep them moving, just to make the game lag, so we can go and kill the enemy with Lag :r
LOL
Wouldn't you feel agitated when the whole game lags down?
:(

Not when on your own machine it runs fast ;)
part of the reason why 2 Gig of ram is helpful :D
:t
2GB of RAM?? Where did you get them? I don't think I can get them in Singapore. If they exist, they will cost a very big bomb.

Okay guys, back on subject.

Thanks Imperion1
But for real Does anybody know where I can get program to mess with the settings of the video card. And I know my computer bites but it still runs alot of other games fine so until it breaks down or I get money I'm not building one.

i don't think any Video Tweaker software will help you here
the PC is just barely hanging there
you might want to return the game to the store then :t

Have you tried to update your drivers? :
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/Product_Filter.asp?ProductID=798
Get the version 6.7.
Cheers!

Here's a program for Intel chipsets call Application Accelerator:
http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/iaa/
Make sure you have a compatible chipset, which I'm sure you do since you have the 82810 graphics controler. This should speed up not only the graphics card but everything else on your system.
Hope this helps!

The video card in that is terrible :(
Guys! I have a problem with this game.
I'm playing China and fighting in the last stage.
I'm supposed to be using my nukes to blow up the GLA base but I don't have money.
At the same time, there are so many GLA troops attacking my base and I can't even build up my defenses. I also have a few supplies to collect so I can't get enough money.
One by one, my troops were decimated by the attacking GLA troops and I can't do anything to stop the onslaught. Is there a glitch int his game? Why are the terrorists keep coming at me? I don't understand.
I can't even mount a decent attack on the enemy forces. I can't even get into the city to occupy some oil derricks. When my money went to zero, I simply quit the game and threw the discs into a shoebox. This is rdiculous!
The GLA even launch a Scud Storm over my base and all my defenses were wiped out in an instant.
What am I supposed to do? I think some of you can help me out?

no you are suppose to have learned to use those HACKERS big time by now
i always make like 100s of those Hackers guys with a laptop
man the money pours in like water :p :t
Wait a minute! I don't have much money left while defending my base from those terrorist onslaught. Where can I get money to train the hackers? I can only afford to have three hackers and then the Scud Storm arrives and blow away my defenses.
Altogether, two Overlords and two Artillery Tanks were blown to bits. I even have to use two normal tanks and two Gatling Tanks to hold off the onslaught.
Which item did you choose when you get promoted? I choose the repair and mine drop options.
I'm kind of desperate here as I am about to complete China missions. Pls help me!!

the first point, i usually pick the Elite troops right off the factory
then the 2nd point on the mobile nuke cannons
the Elite for Firestorm doesn't work well, cuz you need too many firetanks to take advantage of that perk
well anyways
usually when playing againts CPU, i play part defensive and part Hackensive (new word :p)
i keep shifting my base operations, like you figured out they keep on comming non stop
they have a week point the Y beyond the village
if you can hold your defenses long enough there you are set
send your Girl hacker to kill their launchers and bases and money, that's easy if you can multitask
ok then, on the defense side build concentrate on Anti Air turrets, and Healing towers
build those healing tanks with 12 army guys on them, having already been elite
they are easy vs other units
use 2 or more tanks to defend each tank containing 12 units so when heavier things comes you wont waste those army guys
just try to keep any Level 3 unit alive
those can waste anything real fast with a little healing help and some distraction
have at least 1 air base handy
and use all 4 planes to play Defense
you know those china planes are KEWL once they upgrade to nuke
**** 1 plane can waste so much
for defensive use is simply the best
anyways.... that should be enough tips to get you past the Y and into their territories
:t
Sorry to bother you again! AllGamer!
In the starting part of Mission 7 (China), the whole contingent was ambushed by the GLA forces and I have to fight my way up the slope and destroy the small terrorist base. I thought I had a lot of supplies at the enemy base but there were only a few crates left for me. I could afford to build up a small but weak defense line and I had to stop at Propaganda Center because I was basically out of money.
I launched two T-50s into the city to look for more supplies and I found an oil derrick but my tanks were wiped out by a wave of GLA troops. Those terrorists kept coming and my defenses often need repairs. Thus, I can't even launch a decent attack on the enemy main base. Now I am totally stuck at the spot and I can't even build more tanks to fend off the numerous attacks.
I was hit by two Scud Storms and my defenses collapsed immediately. They had Scud Storm ready when you built up your base. Now I can only train three hackers and they can't provide enough money to rebuild my defenses. I'm now playing GLA missions and I plan to abandon the Chinese missions. I had it with the last mission. The enemy keeps coming and I have to defend myself. Why can't the enemy forces hold off a bit? And they have so many reosurces to build so many troops.

....sigh...... )-| well obviously if you are not careful
but even if she dies, then just make another one
i had to use at least over a dozen
i dunno, maybe you can find another way to beat them
but that's the way i did it
:t
AllGamer! I'm stuck in GLA mission again.
I'm supposed to transport three Chinese nukes into a traitor's base to blow the latter to kingdom come. Well! I did just that and the base is still there. Now I have to fend off three Chinese onslaughts from the rear and the traitor forces from the front. I am fighting a two-sided battle.
My credits were drained and I had to find new resources. Well! My new situation is the same as the Chinese missions. I had it with Generals. Why can't it allow players to have enough money to last the whole game. My forces were often stretched to the limit and my credits were almost depleted.
Now I'm still defending the base from the traitor forces and I'm going to give up the GLA missions. I'm going to switch to the US forces. If the US is still the same, I will quit playing Generals and throw the discs away.
I'M VERY FED UP!!

did you use a Cheat to open up all the scenarios?
cuz on a real play
you will have never been able to play the Chinese missions, without first beating all the OLS missions
and to reach USA missions, you can only do it after you beat all OLS missions, and all Chinese missions
you should really spend some time and play it from the start as it was meant to :p
that way you'll know how to use all the units properly :D

I ran into this problem and you're lucky it's running - I think their site said that game wouldn't even run with that video chipset?
You may be out of luck - I had to upgrade 3 computers in the house so the guys could play that mother - most expensive game I ever bought :r

I played the Solo Play. It lists down the three countries for you to choose from. Plus, the training and the skirmish missions. Do you need to finish the Chinese missions first?
Now I'm playing the US and it's still the same thing. I ran out of money. There are so little supplies for my base while the enemy forces have so many supplies aorund it. This is ridiculous! If possible, I can mail you my saved missions and hope you can figure it for me. I had it!!

don't give up :p
that's the whole point of Strategy Games,
RTS it's slightly harder cuz it has no pause, but Turns based Strategy Games has
you just need a little practice, and scout the maps
Air Defense is your friend
BTW, i play vs real player online in Westwood
playing vs real people is a lot harder, yet i still have no problem with them, sometimes i lose, sometimes i win
you just need patience and get to know the units well

Well! Harder said than done! At least, you're good at it but I have totally lost touch with RTS games for many years. My last RTS games was C&C: Tiberium Sun, C&C: Firestorm and Dune: Emperor. At least, I knew how to complete all of them but I somehow lost the patience and 'intelligence' in playing Generals. I've been playing FPS games for quite some time and I think I have become docile and stupid.
Just shoot your targets and solve the puzzles!
