DNS Server lisence required

We set up a domain with MS2000 Servers and a Exchange2000 mail server. The domain is registered and we have registered the Mailserver with a external MX service provider. We use some of the MS Servers to act as DNS servers. We also use old Linux Boxes for DNS Servers. Someone told me that before my time the Linux boxes has been registered as DNS servers and asked me if I have registered the MS DNS Servers. Why would I do that?

You wouldn't. DNS is a service on Windows servers. You don't need to license the DNS service.
