for a quickie - DOS + Win3.11
for games - Win98SE
for newest games - WinXP

I use XP Pro and like it a lot. I use it mainly for the usual common stuff (netsurfing, word processing, playing mp3s, etc.) and games. It works well both for stability and performance, so I gave it an 8. Big improvement over 98SE, which is what I used before. Can't compare it to 2000, never used that at all.

I also use Red Hat 9.0, which is almost there. A little more ease of use, which will come in the next version or two, and a little further development of WineX, so we can play DirectX games on it, and we won't need Windows at all.

i would say w2k BUT

w/o clean install

w2k upgraded from 98se plus has better options already working than clean install

with clean install w2k got to install theme supports, have to get winzip or other unzipper

with upgrade, this stuff already works. windows okay for some things

still messing with, figuring out linux. believe its next step

i noticed that if i installed the "critical updates" from the MS website, it makes my computer extremely unstable. running a simple mp3 file can result in a freezing computer. i've reinstalled Windows XP about 4 times in the past month. right now it's the most stable with only SP1 installed and absolutely no critical updates. computer has only froze twice in the past 4 days.

I acually am a fan of Windows Me (the blue box flavor). I like ME beacuse it is basicly an updated version of Windows 98, and who doesnt want an updated version of a program? :p

XP pro is pretty good, seems stable, plug and play works like it should(FINALLY). I think Win2k is a good OS also and in some ways I like it better than xp. the one thing I don't like in XP is having to get Bill gates permission(practically) to upgrade a piece of hardware in xp! XP and Win2k definatly make up for winME(Yuuukkkk!)

I have Win 98SE, XP Pro and Mandrake Linux all on one machine with 3 separate partitions. I like XP for graphics, printing etc. but have to have Win98 for some applications and hardware like my Homefree Lan system...no drivers for XP..also no drivers for one of my scanners.
Linux is there simply for me to play with and learn something new. No good for games but superior for the net w/ Mozilla.

bob05 are you MAD!!

WinME????????? possibly the most flaky OS! Who wants an upg that is worse than the orighinal? Go back to 98SE or DOS - or clean install XP!
By the way at the top, i was typing with one hand thats why it looks like a SMS!!

Does anybody like MacOS? I hate it but somebody else might like it!

I like the real MAC OS 9

if i go to MAC OS 10, i rather go LINUX

since it's the same thing, just with a "nicer" X Window

re: WinME, i agree, it's the worse crappy OS ever from MS

like wwaaaaaay back with Windows 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 was understandable to have those bugs

but they fixed in windows 3.11

but then again, the brough back all the **** in WinME  :p
