A 37-year-old male teacher repeatedly beat a student unconscious after they argued in the corridor of a Nagoya middle school last week, it was learned Wednesday.
The 12-year-old first-year student at Hisakata Middle School in Tenpaku Ward suffered a brain contusion and strained vertebrae in his neck. He remains hospitalized with a slight fever and nosebleeds.
The teacher has apologized and has remained at home since Monday.
According to the Nagoya City Board of Education, the two began arguing at about 11:40 a.m. on May 6 after the teacher scolded the student for throwing his backpack in a school corridor. The teacher then allegedly pushed the student up against a wall before knocking him to the floor and slamming his head into the floor four or five times while he sat astride the boy.
