The HiVal 40x40's have come down to $99 (or less) For the extra cost you really get unbeatable performance.

I have an Asus 40x CDROM and I like it a lot. I think it costs about $65.

Staples has a Memorex 48x on sale for $59.99 then a $30 mail in rebate ($29.99 end result). Gotta be purchased by March 6th.

Bought an I/O Magic 40x that will only cost me $29 after rebate. It's loud at times - sounds kinda like a small chain saw. Took first one back got another but it acts that way too at times.

I'll be staying clear of these. Good luck with your purchase.

Don't have it, never tried it, just noticed that it was on sale. I'm having trouble with my Creative 24x and was debating the Memorex, so I might have an answer next week. Also checking a computer show this weekend, hoping to pick up a slot loader style drive.

stay away from those true 40X+ speed drives from hival, kenwood. they have major reliability problems.

Just picked the Memorex drive up and it's sweet for the price and rebate (2 days left)
