Are they different boards?

I've looked through the specs and the only real difference I've noticed was that the -X version can handle both SDRAM AND DDRAM.

Anyone in the know...know?

I'd think that -X would be a better deal, if you are upgrading and don't want to spend cash on new memory (you just stick with your older SDRAM).

Are these truly different boards, or just a glitch that Asus did on the site?

The X supports Hyperthreading where the older does not. The X dropped Serial ATA (SATA) though.

Neither supports older PC100/133 RAM. You must understand that both PCxxx and DDR are considered to be SDRAM.

Ahhh, so the -X is better. Okay.

What does it mean when they have PC2700?

PC2700 = DDR333. Same thing.

Let me remind youthat the new X does NOT have SATA.

So, pound for pound.

P4S8X has SATA, but not the Hyperthreading. However, the -X version has Hyperthreading, but for some reason decided to drop the SATA? Why? If that will be the new standard, why drop it?

Strange. So, they speed up the software I/O through processor protocols, but don't do anything for the hardware side.

Which would you get?

:confused:

I would get the -X. You can always buy a SATA card later - a better one. It's not a standard quite yet.
