I recently was playing around formatting and reloading my computer, trying different configs and stuff and decided to do some clean load benchmarks using Sisoft Sandra...
First the make up of the system:
AMD Athlon Thunderbird 750
MSI K7T Pro2-A
Thermaltake Chrome Orb - Full load 100F
384MB PC100 SDRAM
Diamond Viper 770 Ultra 32MB
(TNT2 Ultra)
2 X Maxtor 20GB ATA100 HDD's
Creative Soundblaster Live!
Creative Labs Dxr3 DVD Decoder
3Com 10/100 (3C905B) Network Card
Yamaha 2100EZ CD-RW
Affrey 12X DVD
300 Watt Power Supply
**All test were done on a clean load of the OS, with only updates from Microsoft's Windows Update Website. Both Win98SE and Win2K had DirectX 8 installed, Win2K had SP2 installed, both had IE 5.5. The only other software loaded was Sandra. For Win88SE, everything was turned off at startup up using MSConfig except Explorer and Systray. For Win2K, all unnecessary services were stopped, leaving only 14 processes running when the OS started up. All of the latest drivers were used in both cases...
The benches:
Windows 98SE Windows 2000 Pro
Dhrystone ALU : 2082 : 2094 .576%
Whetstone FPU : 1020 : 1034 .1.373%
MMX Enh : 4056 : 4091 .863%
3D Now! : 5092 : 4702 -7.659%
I know that these numbers aren't great, I am not overclocking or anything, the compter is my secondary anyway...
You can see that everything but the 3DNow! Bench is up betweeen .5% and 1.5% - nothing big, not really saying anything. This is where the question come up... why is the 3DNow! mark 7% worse with Win2K? I am just curious and these were run one day just to kill time. Anyone with any insight that would like to try to explain this would be great.
Thanks,
