DO dvd decoders improve the quality of the picture or just spare system resources.

PS im talking about hardware dvd decoders

Like with mine, I can do stuff while playing a dvd and it doesn't touch the picture - 800mhz P3, 64mb Geforce2 GTS, software decoder.

With a slower system, you may need to have a hardware decoder just to play the dvd.

Also, a hardware decoder has TV-Out incase you want to pipe the movie to your tv.

It can improve playback also depending on your system and what software you use for playback.

I main reason why I use a decoder card is so I can play DVDs in dolby digital sound via my digital/ dts amp http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
