I was wondering if anyone knew if the Thermaltake MINI SUPER ORB Heatsink + 2 Ball bearing Fans would be a good option for a cooling system on an Athlon 1GHz CPU? I plan to try and OC the system as much as I can.
If noise factor isn't a concern, I would strongly recommend a WBK-38 W/ Delta Fan. I'm using one on my T-Bird 1Ghz FSB-200 @ 1.4Ghz and it idles at 32C. and 44C. Max load. I haven't seen it get higher than 44C. despite the warm weather.

Yep, the GlobalWIN WBK-38 is a great deal. You can get it for less than 30 bucks and it cools better than the FOP's and most/all orbs.

From what I've read, Orbs of any kind are more show than go. Personally, I use a FOP32-1 on my 1G Tbird. Read a few reviews on cooler comparisons before you waste your money on an Orb. There are cooler reviews here:

The Only Thermaltake HS that AMD recommends is the Volcano II. Like the others said the orbs just look cool. I'm also pretty keen on a WBK38, I meant to get one last week but unfortunately two birthdays's came out of no-where so it'll be another few weeks.....sigh. So in answer to the question the mini-super orb is not a good cooling solution IMO for the 1ghz T-bird and especially so if you plan on O/Cing it. If you've got the funds those Swiftec MC462's are supposed to be great.

Definatly get the WBK - 38 if you can stand the sound.
