Everytime i use it i seem to run into problems with various things? crossedup 05-05-2003, 07:36 AM ill have to admit, ive used 98se since it first came out and im using 2k pro now and i have never updated anything. everything has always worked well enough, i didnt see the point. yeah, yeah. BEWARE virus, trojan !!! i can format and reinstall in little time or reghost in even less. gives me a chance to upgrade HD ( or makes me upgrade HD ), usually have a better one sitting around by the time reinstall is necessary. :t cment 05-05-2003, 08:38 AM I have XP pro and my auto update won't update either. It will download and then just hangs at the install. Anyone got any Ideas? Bigjakkstaffa 05-05-2003, 09:10 AM I dont update my Os's although i must admit i have gotten hold of SP2 for 2k as it fixes quite a number of problems related to gaming, also i indulged in SP1 for XP due to the massive security holes, other than that i dont really bother with win update. --Jakk:t AllGamer 05-05-2003, 02:49 PM Originally posted by stu Just wondering who uses windows update and who doesnt. AllGamer 05-05-2003, 04:26 PM what is your system spec? on new machines are fast on my old P2-300 it takes it at least 1 hour to finish yeah same like yours, just sits there forever but eventually finishes after a few hours :x Aznmask 05-05-2003, 04:51 PM Originally posted by cment I have XP pro and my auto update won't update either. Control Panel>>>System>>>Automatic Update>>>> :D AllGamer 05-05-2003, 05:07 PM that will not turn it off completely to really turn it off you have to go into SERVICES.MSC and select Dissable for windows update :t cment 05-05-2003, 05:56 PM I have it set on Manual, but where is services.msc? I only download what I want, but just stops at install, it doesn't even start to install. AllGamer 05-05-2003, 06:05 PM in the RUN line and it still works even if you select Dissable that just shows you how wacked windows really is :p :t Bizkitkid2001 05-05-2003, 06:24 PM I have auto-update turned off. But about once a month I go to the update site and select the important updates that I want to install, and don't install the stuff I don't want. jmatt 05-05-2003, 06:43 PM http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot http://www.infinisource.com/techfiles/winup-errors.html http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q193/6/57.asp?FR=1 http://langa.com/newsletters/2000/2000-12-21.htm#2 http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q228/5/48.ASP http://www.windows-help.net/windows98/troub-31.shtml http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/current.asp http://www.broomeman.com/support.html http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.aspx?displaylang=en&categoryid=7 http://www.microsoft.com/technet/ http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/R824/v31site/default.htm Which is an alternate direct link to Windows Update. http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/ Windows Update Troubleshooter.
