Here is a link to see ones that have been tested. http://www.check-mark.com/checkmark/index.htm Optimus Prime 05-04-2003, 07:28 AM AVG is good, so is Norton AntiVirus 2003. AVG is free btw, so that's another browny point on it :D. bushmaster 05-04-2003, 10:06 AM Avg is good, I do quite a bit of downloading of various files and AVG has kept my system clean and free of any problems relating to virii and trojans. Bigjakkstaffa 05-04-2003, 12:50 PM AVG (www.grisoft.com)small, free and dont gobble resources --Jakk:t omendata 05-04-2003, 12:53 PM Yep AVG is prehpas not the best in terms of viruses detected but its by far the easiest to use and not as hungry on resources as ones such as mcafee are - it gets more points because its free. I also like its integration with outlook and outlook express. In recent tests by which pc magazine - only Kaspersky Antivirus detected the most number of viruses from a set test suite of known viruses , its heuristic funcitonality was also top of the notch.Norton is pretty poor in benchtests as is mcafee. Panda antivirus was also quite good. If you have a sandbox and antivirus combined with firewall you should be pretty well setup. AllGamer 05-04-2003, 01:02 PM that test must have been rigged :p cuz the Sales numbers shows otherwise ;) :t Bigjakkstaffa 05-04-2003, 01:23 PM If you trust sales statistics ford make the best cars in the world  :p --Jakk:t AllGamer 05-04-2003, 01:29 PM hmm... not really i don't know where you get your infos but for the last 10+ years toyota camry has had the most sales and rated top for 7+ years in the row then it was honda accord then it was the VW Jetta then it went back to Honda and i forgot about the last 2 years didn't pay much attention to it after i got my Expensive car, :p anyways the end point is, Imports has always got the most sales :t Bigjakkstaffa 05-04-2003, 01:30 PM then it was the VW Jetta hh the VW jetta, now there was a car, shame no one this side of the pond bought one :p --Jakk:t EDIT: i don't know where you get your infos In general terms in the Uk your talking about Ford in terms of most car's on the road, simply because theyre dirt cheap..turd buckets though AllGamer 05-04-2003, 01:37 PM interesting..... i dind't know about ford being so welcomed in europe :) always though you folks are into monster HPs cars and expensive brands ;) here in America the imports are more than welcome by its low GAS consumption interestingly enough those low ends cars (dirt cheap) as you say, they don't get as much sales :t Bigjakkstaffa 05-04-2003, 02:38 PM The majority of cars here tend to be small hatchbacks because theyre cheap to maintain and in the UK generally were not as wealthy as you guys. Having said that im more into my muscle cars and machines with 'grunt' myself, one of the reasons the scooby doo impreza is my dream car, its ugly but its beautifully ugly :x --Jakk:t cdroman 05-04-2003, 05:28 PM Originally posted by AllGamer that test must have been rigged :p cuz the Sales numbers shows otherwise ;) :t If I use your logic then you would have to agree that a Windows OS must be the best. nothing 05-04-2003, 05:46 PM I use norton antivirus 2003 and I like it. Never had a problem with viruses getting into my computer. omendata 05-05-2003, 03:45 AM Article from this weeks w2knewsPanda Software Found Viruses On My PC The antivirus experts at Panda Software sent me a copy of Panda Platinum 7, their professional desktop antivirus. When I installed Panda on my machine, it found two viruses that had slipped by the old anti-virus software on the PC at my house. There's no way I'll take this puppy off my machine now! Of course, I got the software for free. Now, for the first time anywhere, you can too. Who's Panda? They're a European anti-virus "powerhouse". Platinum 7 was awarded 5 stars by Computer Buyer UK in a recent match-up against the likes of Trend Micro. And Platinum has some pretty cool features: Automatic daily updates every time you are online Actually repairs the damage done by viruses Ultra sensitive Panda firewall catches intruders others don't even notice So, how about that free offer? The people at Panda noticed that IT professionals using Platinum at home recommended it at work. So, W2Knews was able to negotiate a killer deal for all our subscribers. Since you are an IT "influencer" they want you to have a copy for your personal use. The offer is simple: qualify as an IT professional and Panda will give you Platinum for free, no strings attached. You can renew for as long as they have this program, just by re-qualifying every year. I'd say this one is pretty much a no-brainer, don't you? But they don't want the whole world to rip them off so the link is only good for a few hours. Here is some product info about Platinum: http://www.w2knews.com/rd/rd.cfm?id=030505TP-Platinum Did I say you should act now? To qualify for the free download, click here: http://www.w2knews.com/rd/rd.cfm?id=030505TP-Download _Mystical_Night 05-11-2003, 03:00 AM Norton Antivirus = r0x0r Aznmask 05-11-2003, 04:02 PM AVG is the best.. czu you dont want an anti-virus like Norton eat up your PC resouce. But with AVG it can kept your system clean. AVG does the job like Norton but Norton might have more funtion (haven't use any Norton after 5.0) But totally eat up your PC performance if u have norton on.. :D AVG is FREE!!!! As long as the anti-virus can scan, find anti-virus is a good program... also FREE :r wirerunner 05-11-2003, 06:52 PM norton, got ghost firewall etc for 39.[american not iraqi dinars] SLX 05-12-2003, 04:34 AM I have both Nort and McCaffe In terms of Best Virus protection Nort is the best. But its a little complex for me, not that its hard to use, its just a hassle and does alot more than I want. McCaffe, is more simple, and sits there quietly. Maybe its not the best, but ive not had a virus kill my system yet. Except for me of course, I seem to be the only one killing my system:( . bassman 05-12-2003, 05:48 AM I'm using NortonAV, but IMO it lacks customization options; the best I ever used was McAffeeAV 4.5, but it only works nice on systems up to W98SE/WinNT4. Another great one is Kaspersky's Labs AVP. Doomer 05-12-2003, 08:24 AM Be forewarned that AVG does not catch viruses coming in over the network. :( bushmaster 05-12-2003, 08:30 AM I have both Nort and McCaffe I did'nt think AV's played all that well together. bblqj78 05-12-2003, 10:08 AM I have used both Norton Pro 2003 and AVG. Both my mate and I have picked up virus's via Kazza while having AVG installed and couldn't get rid of them...resulting in A Format Hard Drive and re-install everything. I have had Norton AV Pro 2003 installed now for 4 months which has picked up 6 or 7 virus files and erased them straight away. It does slow down windows ever so slightly...however on most newish machines ...you will hardly notice it. Go NORTON.....oh ye...and it updates nearly daily. gwlogue 05-12-2003, 10:18 AM Best is a subjective term. They all do the job. You need to take a look at the available features and touch-and-feel of the various products to determine which you prefer. There are many free tools out there if cost is your issue but beware, you get what you pay for. I would recommend you look at NORTON and MCAFEE to see what the commercial products look like and compare features. Good luck SysOpt.com
