I have installed win 98 on a DX66 but just wondering if it can be installed on a 33 mhz system if the HD is big enough? Thanks

they will tell you it needs a 66mhz at the min and 16 megs of ram and on a 33 'IF' it will, it will be so dog slow you might as well go out to eat while it loads a page...3.1 on those old ones flies pretty good..even 95 was doggy

I dont think it would work but i would still try it. but if the system is running fine on windows 95 just leave it alone. if its not broken dont fix it.

good luck! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I would throw a full version of dos on it and look up some abandonware games for it. Those old games were a riot to play. If the HD is any decent size, you could run hundreds if not thousands of games. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

My buddy has a 486dx with 32 mb of ram running win98 lite. It's pretty fast. He stripped everything off the OS he could. It doesn't have any IE on it at all. No web browser nothing. I was most inpressed with how fast it boots up. i should time it, but it was fast. He only used it for old games and word processing

I'm running 95 on an old 486/50 laptop at work with a (drum roll) 210 mb hard drive and 8 meg of ram. Used to run Powerpoint viewer from Office 95 on it - slowly, but it ran.
