Naw, if it wasn't for Intel, AMD's prices would be sky high. Somebody has to buy Intel once in a while to keep them around. Competition is good. :D

Yeah Geil is good stuff. Little over priced but good. THe only bad thing i heard was some incompat problems with Asus a7n8x mobo's. Other than that real solid oclocking mem. Yes GOOOO Joe. I mean AMD.:p

Geil is excellent RAM, but some of their stuff will not work with the nForce2 chipset.

That said, neither will some of Corsairs

If your going to be building new Intel why go with the PE chipset ?.

I'd look to either the 655 or i875P, preferably the i875P as it will support the newer 800Mhz FSB Intel processors already on the market.

And along with a i875P board such as the MSI Neo, instead of getting one stick of 512MB DDR ram get 2 sticks of either 256 or 512MB so that you can take advantage of dual channel DDR the way the intel setup is meant to.
If you look hard enough you can find the ATI 9700pro for under $270 from a known seller.

The case is excellent, I have the same one in blue. Power supply is the same one I use in most of my machines.
DVD good.

I have a lite-on 52x burner and it so far has been trouble free, but because of the higher speed it does tend to sound like it's getting ready to take off from an aircraft carrier when it's spinning up.

as long as it's stable and you want an intel go for it...... AMD is also a good option........ considering their thoroughbred's.

Why is it when somebody asks about building an Intel rig people come flying forth telling the person to entirely switch gears and go AMD ?. This leaves the nooB builder with mouth agape wondering if they have made a good choice or not.
IMO Both AMD and Intel make a good product. I have both AMD and Intel boxes running in my house.
But as far as saying AMD is better than Intel ?, Thats just not true. Even the performance per $ is no longer a valid argument when comparing AMD vs. Intel, as when AMD lowers prices Intel follows suit and vice versa. Just as there are operations that AMD CPU's can do faster than Intel CPU's, that same can be said for Intel over AMD. With the exception of the current DCDDR performance, neither one are inferior products.

Yes the above guy is right. If you are building a new Intel gaming platform, don't go with the 845PE as it is more suited for data, say in a business environment. It will be stable, very stable, but won't give you the performance as some of the newer chipsets out there.

for that much money, an AMD system can go much further, specially paired up with the Abit KD7-E

AG's choice of CPU is good, but if your lookign at mobo's you'll want to go for either

a) Asus A7n8x Deluxe, if you want a feature packed board, want to do a little bit of overclocking but not get your hands too dirty. BTW their new revisions support 400MHz FSB

or

b) Epox 8rda+ Decent feature set, overclocks like a beat and very cheap
