I was hoping you all could offer some advice on a barebones system im putting together myself.

Asus P4T with Intel P4 1.4 GHz -- $373
1 x Samsung 256MB ECC RDRAM -- $189
IBM Deskstar 60gxp 40GB -- $120
ACER CD-650P 50x cdrom -- $32
Teac floppy -- $10
Soundblaster Live Platinum 5.1 -- $149
Addtronics Midtower 300w 3891A -- $83
= $956

I already have a Diamond v770 TNT2 card, an HP 8100i 4x2x24 burner, Mag 17" monitor and all the other little things. Anyone have any suggestions on things I might want to change.

The costs of your RAM seem kinda pricey. I could swear you could get PC2100 256MB for less than $100 now.

MSBrown2:

Are you talking RAMBUS memory modules? I would guess so, as ablang is accurate otherwise, e.g., 256MB PC2100 DDR (with ECC)...$ 70.19 here. (http://www.crucial.com)

Good luck with your system!

Have you thought of going AMD T-Bird. You would save a ton of cashola not only on processor but cost of RAM ((like Brangwen posted). Unless you have specific programs that will need SSE or SSE2, I would go with A T-Bird. And for the money, you can get a Plextor 12x8x32 IDE burner for about 150 bucks from the money you save from the 50X CD and get the SB Live Value for 50 bucks, I think it works jusr as good as the SB Live Platinum. Anyway, just my $0.02
