Windows Explorer usually has 2 windows doesn't it - the left shows the directory structure, and the right shows the contents of the directory selected.

Well, all of a sudden the left window is completely greyed out. It's still there, but it's just an empty panel. I can close it, and re-open it, but it's still just a grey panel.

I've gone into the Windows folder and run explorer.exe straight from there, same thing happens.

This only happened today. I have XP Pro. Any idea how to fix it? Can't be bothered to reinstall its such a pain in the ****.

Ta :t

I've seen that happen only with WinME and IE 6 installed

re-installing WinXP should help

BPB, you're a star :D I don't know why I didn't think of that.

Go up top to view/explorer folder check the folder if there's no check and see if tree comesback.

Yeah that wasn't it - I could press the 'Folders' button and it made the panel dissappear and reappear, but it was always greyed out. Really weird.

I used system restore and it fixed it straight away. Painless :D
