hanging notes, horrible static, and computer freezes during midi playback

i am innocently relaxing, listeing to some final fantasy 1 midi, when all of a sudden, crash, hissssssss, freeze not all at once though but one of those happens during almost every midi i play. it only happens with midi, no other format
also the notes tend to hang very often

any ideas?

i would check the Sound Card drivers. get the latest drivers for whatever sound card you got. also what other programs were running in the background? it couls also a a Problem with Windows Media Player (Anything that says windows on it is evil http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif) try getting the newer one or trying another program to play the midi files. also find a webpage with background music and let it play for a few mins and see if it locks up.

the only other program is aol
this program happens with winamp and a program called vanbosco's karaoke player, that only plays midis
