I don't know anything about DivX myself but you might want to start here:

I use the Div3 codec and the Xvid one to view my DivX movies.

I find that i never have any problems using just those 2 codecs..

I do use the divx player sometimes so that some movies i can watch with a clearer picture.

I dont get a lot of this 'get x codec from here and this codec from there' stuff, all i ever need is the latest codec/player bundle from www.divx.com, to ensure ive deleted the previouys versions of the codec, install it, and all is well. Its when youve got all these various codecs floating around i find things start to get funky :(

Divx can be encoded with high quality sound. AC3 as allgamer said is DVD quality sound. If the divx you are watching used this encoding and you DONT have a DVD player app on yer pc it wont have sound untill you dw that codec. Pic but no sound. If you have a dvd player on pc you prolly never noticed cause it already installed the codecs needed when installing the software player. I use Divx5.0:p
