Does anyone know of a good movie player for Win98 besides Windows Media Player. My player constantly locks up and crahses my entire system. So are there any other players available? I have tried reinstalling Media Player and my DirectX too. Nothing helps.
So if anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it.

I use WMP to play a lot of commercial VCDs. But on ocassion, I have to use my DVD Player in my computer. Which version of WMP are you using?
Global DIVX is also a good player.

There's always realplayer or quicktime, realplayer kinda cool but quicktime is rarely used. I know realplayer plays both mpg's and avi's but I don't know about quicktime's compatibilty issues.

I use QuickTime Pro for most movie viewing, even though the interface could use some serious updating. It may not be the most visually appealing offering, but the stability and compatbility has always proven superb for the majority of my A/V work.

i'll strongly suggest BSPlayer
http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif that's not a joke... the BS part.... believe me........ the name doesn't do justice to the product. It uses very low resources compared to WMP
it's located at bsplayer.cjb.net

i use wmp7 only for new file types that wont play on others..media player v 6.4 is the best...or irfanview with the plug ins will play just about anything....
Global DiVX will play all types of VCDs. For me, it's a pain because I have to change screen resolutions.
Mostly WMP 7.0 does just fine. I won't move to any higher because of "Digital Rights Management" decoders in the later versions.
But sometimes poor encoding won't allow VCDs to play on a pc or stand alone.

Well, I use Irfan View. You download the plug-ins and there you go. Matter of fact, I use 98lite to remove windows media player and then just use Irfan View to view pics, movies etc., and Ultra Player for audio.
Have a good one.

I'm using the media player that came with my Radeon card for everything, even audio files.
It's compatible with everything and I think it uses the video cards hardware for playing vid files, 'cause it uses almost no resources and has better pic quality than any other player.

Really, I just bought a new Radeon card, I mine comes with that software I will have to give it a try.
I tried the bsdsoftware. Its not bad, I like the interface of WMP more. I will give Irfan view a try tonight to see if I like it. Then if I don't .. its back to WMP 7.0 http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
