Hi Folks,

Maybe someone here has experienced this -
When playing some DVD's, the audio/video lose sync with each other - If I restart the chapter - it will be fine for a while - but gradually it happens again.

Not all movies, but some. I'm using the Creative 12x DVD w/the TV out card (dxr3).

thanks,

Ken

Here's my system -

900mhz Tbird
m800 mobo (pchips)
sound is integrated
nic is integrated
128mb pc100 ram
30g maxtor hd
Asus Geforce2 MX 32mb
12X Creative DVD w/ dxr3 encore decoder card
(i think it's actually a hwood card with the licensed by creative)

I'm thinking this may be happening because I'm playing the audio thur the PC speakers - which sound better than the TV's. I don't notice this problem if I'm just playing back on the PC monitor. Also, what is really weird - is it only happens on certain movies - today was 102 dalmations - two days ago I watched Blade - with no problem whatsoever!? The only other movie I've noticed this problem with was 'Analyze this'.

Maybe it is your playback software! I use PowerDVD 3.0 and it works fine. I also have a Cinemaster 99 and 2000 versions (like the 99 better = much faster in my system). I think you have a powerful system and if you have a decoder card you shouldn't be experiencing problems. Some dvd playback software doesn't support some dvd features but it's really rare as it just happens on old software mostly!

Or the integrated soundcard. Is the hardware acceleration set to full for sound?

As you suspected, your card is a HoolyWood decoder. Make sure you have the latest Hollywood drivers for optimum support. It could be that Creative is lagging behind in driver updates.

Also, try playing the movie with a traditional software-based player. If you are using WinMe or Win2k, then you can try "dvdplay.exe", found in your C:\windows directory. If the movies play fine, then this will narrow down the search for potential problems.

well ur system is definately fast enough but if you have windows me u can easily check if its ur software by typing `dvdplay` under run, for some reason windows me included it but never really let users know about it. just see if the dvd plays better on that.

Hmm.. I might add that I had a similar problem with a toshiba tecra. It had hardware dvd decoder (as the processor speed was only 233MHz) but it wouldn't play any dvd at full frame rate unless I used the toshibas own dvd player. PowerDVD would only display 1/5 of the frames... Still don't know what the problem was.
