I've searched half the www to get an answer to the question whether it is possible to make a barton2500 spin on an msikt3ultra mobo. Some tell me that this is possbile because when putting the fsb on 166 mhz or higher a pci divider kicks in. Can someone tell me with certainty whether this is true? I am planning to buy one together with a Vantec VA4-C7040 cooler (seems to be really good)

Targetsystem

msi kt3ultra
Barton XP 2500+
Vantec VA4-C7040 cooler
Radeon 8500 (hercules 8500le at 250/240 with Unreal2 otherwise crash, 280/254 in other applications)
Maxtor 40Gb/7200rpm (+20gig soon)
100mbit networkje athome, incl router
current 3dmark2001se score 95003dmarks.

Only the Ultra2 and KT3V support the Barton. Sorry.

thanks, decided to not spend too much money and be happy with a 2400+ and new Titan cooler... will clock it to 2600+. That is ok for now and since I emigrated to live with my girlfriend I will be a bit cautious with money. In half a year or so I will take another look at the market and buy a new mobo/cpu/gfxcard.

The 2400 is probably the better bet anyhows, the 512kb cache of the Bartons dont make a great deal of difference and its a slightly unpredictable overclocker, with the 2400+ you can prolly squueze much moreout of it in terms of performance than you would a 2500+
