I have a Sony Vaio Rx- 650. I have upgraded the CPU to a 2.2 P4 and upgraded the video card to a Geforce 4 Ti-4200 with AGP 8x
My porblem is that the BIOS only has a few settings that I can actuaaly change, the CPU is loked out as is the aperture setting for the video card. Does anyone know how to unlock this. The BIOS is an Award BIOS. MOBO is ASUS P4B266LM Rev. 1.xxxx
Sony will not help me and their techs have never heard of aperture. SO they say. I want to OC my CPU but need

The Sony's motherboard is custom-made for them by Asus. It's not upgradable. You can try flashing a normal P4B266 BIOS, but you may lose the board.

I would replace it.

Thanks for the advice. Why would a basic BIOS from ASUS fry the board? I wish these computer companies would not lock up the BIOS.

Boards used in systems like Dell, HP, Sony etc are based on reference models from motherboard manufacturers, but may have been modified slightly eg less PCI slots. I have heard of people flashing these kinds of boards with BIOS images designed for the original design and having success, but it certainly isn't something you want to do unless you're willing to sacrifice a board...
