Win me IE6 Dx 6.1 at the moment.

I'v odd probs with a machine at the moment.
Has anyone run into this.

When activeX scripts run - usually online - the screen bsods with an error message - hit any key and the app is gone but windows is ok.

Direct 3D is disabled but reinstalls and uninstalls of Dx - any flavour - don't resolve the issue.

...sounds more like a scripting problem.

have you installed MS virtual machine? If not, maybe you should; and while your at it why not d/l and install Java too!

You could also run a repair of I.E.6 from the add/remove programs button in control panel!

Hi Strawbs. You put me on the right lines ta.
Some of the internet zones permissions for active X were denied.
So part of the prob resolved.
Now - why does direct 3d seem to rely on Active X. ???

**** - it's happening again. time for Windows '95 and a proper browser l think. This M$ stuff is too clever by half. Do l need Active X - l don't think so any more.

The errors are - error : 0E : 0028 : 00000003 and others similar.

hmmm :x

I hope you didn't give up there herosrest! did you try the repair of IE yet?

You could also try Regrepair 2000 (http://www.easydesksoftware.com/files/Regrep.zip) (scroll down page), it may be of some help!

Some light has flickered at the end of this particular tunnel.
In comparing code for web pages which display and those which do not - the problem seems to come down to a damaged shockwave flash implementation.
However the problem does not seem to resolve with a reinstall of the the windows flash implementation.

I'm surprised that search engines did not hit this error code message.
Hands up all those who do not have flash installed (its a default) on windows.

download a new instance from Macromedia (http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash&P5_Language=English).

I uninstalled shockwave via control panel/windows components.
Local web pages that exhibited the problem display ok
On line pages still crash. HO hum.

Direct3D remains disabled.
It has flickered to life occasionally after DX reinstalls but dies at re boot.

What is the hook between shockwave and directX????
is there one - probably.

Sounds more like you are having trouble with IE instead

try Checking your computer first for VIRUSES

then Upgrade to DX 9 or at least 8.1

then upgrade your IE to IE 6.01 spk1 or 2

and go to macromedia to get the latest version of Flash and Shockwave

on a side note, as far as i know

there's no relation between Direct X and ShockWave

Cheers Allgamer. Like l first said this box's os is tweaked and hacked out the other side of hades - l don't reinstall on it - just stroke it till it does what is needed (usually involves a couple of whacks with a heavy blunt item).
This little hiccup got to me.

The symptoms are obscure and i'd like to nail this one - a trick to keep up the old sleeve - what.
I've run all versions of Dx from 6 thru 8.1b (nine just rolls over and dies - but no prob - won't need it till Xmas probably and then the latest cards won't run on this box.

Well this sneaky little prob kept me going in circles but l nailed it - l think and can reproduce the error at will now. It's koool but i can't let on - i'd have to kill you.
