Me and the buds are building a site. One guy is makin us a counter. Well actually he already made one. But it is only one to count raw hits. He is gonna make us one to count unique hits. But he isn't sure just how it should work. How often should it reset? Should it count unique hits per day? Unique hits per week? Per month? Per Year? Per decade? Century? Millenium? What are your opinions? Please support your opinions in a well developed essay. Or just post something, it doesn't need support. If you have no more opinion than one seems better, that'd be no problem. Just lemme know what you think.

On my sites i like to use a raw hit counter as it adds to the counter faster and makes the site look more popular. I use the log files to check the real usage for myself. Only works if you have access to log files though.

www.thecounter.com (http://www.thecounter.com) The best counter IMHO.

I agree with techwriter.
If you ARE trying to make a professional site, leave the counter out. Although if you are making a site just for you and your friends to mess with, go for a counter..

Good link DemonKnight

Or even better yet, us thecounter.com and the invisible counter option. You can then get the tons of stats they have, without presenting that image.

*feels happy*

I use the blank image for the counter my self. (I should get my site going again.. every few days I start then stop for a month or so). Glad I could be of help.

Just my $.02...It should depend on what your site is all about. In a professional website, counters are really a joke. Some professional web designers see counters as "amateur". Can you imagine a counter on the SysOpt main page? However, if your website is a personal site and you aren't concerned much with presenting a "professional" image, then by all means knock yourself out and have fun counting your hits.
