Colleagues, Fellow Members & Visitors:

My grandfather is going hyper speed on me! After using a 233 MMX Socket 7 combo for a few years he's ready to rock with an Athlon system, insisting on a Iwill KK266 board. My having bought 2 of those boards and voicing my enthusiasm over them gave him the idea. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Anyway, Gramps built a space in his bookshelf system roughly 16 3/4" (H) x 16 3/4" (D) x 8" (W). That's what his new system must be housed in. Any recommendations for good ATX cases that will house the Iwill and fit in his designated case-space?

Thx!

PS: Iwill KK266 = 305mm x 240mm

Brother Brangwen, I would have a heart to heart talk with Gramps. See if he can either revamp what he has built, or put the puter somewhere else. Thats not enough room. You may be able to squeeze a mid tower in it, but even that would be close, and hardly any ventilation. Any of these new Athalon boards need breathing room...heat is their worst enemy. Even if its never overclocked, its gonna get hot in that small case, and no room for fans...even extra fans when the sides of the case and back of the case will be closed in. If you ask me, thats a big problem going somewhere to happen.

Hidee, vintron.. I have an Antex SOHO SX1030, and that thing wouldn't fit those dimensions laying on its side, back or face, much less standing up.

Inwin S506 (http://www.directron.com/inwins506.html) , but it will stick out about 1.5". This is the only one that I could find even close!

The Inwin S500 is the same size with a plain looking face. I used Directron to search because they list a lot of specs with their products.

AND...both are AMD approved for the T-birds (but could usea bigger PS if you're going to run a lot of drives.)

I hope that he left the back of the bookshelf system wide open for the 'puter, otherwise it's not going to get enough air to prevent CPU toast!

What does gramps do that requires more than a 233mmx pentium? More importantly, and Athlon. Is he building a dream machine or something? Even old people have better computers than me! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

You may be able to use a "desktop" case and put it on it's side. I think this would be a poor solution for the heating need of a athlon though.

Well, Gramps is getting a FMI a 300W ATX (mfg. part # 10181009A) case. Turns out his cabinet is almost 20" deep so he believes ventilation will be okay.

Gramps was an engineer at IBM for 30+ years -owns most of their stock! Anyway, he's no fool. Builds all wooden clocks (mechanical, wooden sprockets, etc), builds his own telescopes, complete with grinding the lenses himself. I think he'll figure out a ventilation / cooling solution. Very cool and smart dude... just isn't up on "shopping" for components. He's used to making his own.

Again, thanks for the help and keep the ideas coming.

Thx!

http://directron.com/v500microatx.html

there is a small atx case

: Dimensions: 13 7/8" * 7 1/16" * 14 11/16" (H*W*D) -- 352mm * 180mm * 373mm. Disk space: 2 * 5.25", 2 * 3.5", 1 * 3.5" (internal). Weight: N.W. 6.80 kg (15.00 lb), G.W. 7.7 kg (16.90 lb). Mainboard: Micro ATX (mATX) Mainboard. Meet CE, FCC Class B.

$35 maybe that would work

Jacob:

Thx! I looked at that board at www.Directron.com, (http://www.Directron.com,) but doubt the Iwill KK266 will fit in it... But I'll pass the info on.

Thx!
