2 Firewalls

I have blackice and sygate firewall on my system if i was to run these to firewalls at the same time will it imporve my security or will they cancel each other out (conflict):confused:

In reality running two at the same time hardly increases the security. if i were you i would just stick to Sygate

Having two firewalls is a good idea but not on the same machine - perhaps a cheap internet gateway machine say an old p133 or a firewall/router and lastly a personal firewall on your home pc will increase security if they are of different makes as all have their own advantages - the more secure one on the gateway - my preference Sygate.

Having them both on the same machine can snafu your tcp/ip stack and slow down internet access as BigJ say.

Perhaps a sandbox and firewall would be a better combination on the one machine.

Over the last few weeks I have noticed an upsurge in the amount of sniffing and scanning on my NTL cable network - they have even managed to suss out I am using PCanywhere to access my work machine and Ive picked off the firewall logs at work to confirm this - sadly for them though NTL is pretty good with its identification of its users so I have him bang to rights , even have his regional location from the firewall logs - hes even in the same street - and boy is his mum and dad going to get a surprise!!!

So the moral of the story is its alright to have a firewall but without examining the logs you are only doing half a job - I see it time and time again with the companies I consult for - buy a massive Cisco PIX firewall with all the doodaas and just leave it to run without a further glance -=----- bad news!!!!!

You had any problems BigJ - I know your on NTL - Cable is becoming a big problem with hackers this year!!!
