i installed ms 2000 pro and found that my old video cards don't work too well with it.I have a diamond speedstar a90 and a savage 4 32. this is for an older system: ecs k7vza,athlon 1ghz,512mb mb,30ghd,etc. I don't do much gaming but plan to run some flight simulators on it.

You could go for a Geforce4 ti, if you want to get something better for more $£$£.
you dint really say how much you wanted to spend.

the geforce4 mx would work nicely if you're going budget.. next up would be the geforce3 ti200/500 or if that isnt good enough the 9500/ti 4200 :t

Generally thoughyou can get gf3 cards cheaper than the gf4 mx's and theyre much better performers.

Yeah you might as well avoid the gf4 MX's.

ive found geforce3's to be in the 80-100 range, while a decent geforce4 440mx can be around 50.

They generally cost about the same in the UK surely if you looked you could find a well priced one.
Where are you cogburn?

As far as a budget goes less is better as i do not do much gaming. I am looking for something that doesn't have 'issues' with 2000 pro. I can get a geforce4 mx440 64mb for around 40$.

75 dollars for a 64mb ti200.. good to me.
They can be had for about 50 quid here, so that sounds right to me

If you could find the FX5200, it would be a decent buy for features, but it's performance weak. The Gf3 Ti is still a very good card.
I'm not much at all for the Gf4MX series.
I'd go ATI myself right now, but the Gf3 Ti is a good budget choice, followed by the Gf4 Ti, which is getting a bit too pricy for a DX 8 card.

um... there was the suggestion of the 64mb geforce3 ti200 (dx8) which has less features, less memory, and performance wise is not as fast, compared to the 128mb 5200- all for 75. if the money was to be spent there, for only 5 u can get yourself a 5200 (dx9).
the ti4800 would be a more worthwhile buy though.

Hmmm,
The 5200 for $79 is actually a 64MB version. Pricewatch's headline says it's 128MB but if you follow the link it's to the 64MB model though the ad mentions 128MB versions are available.
Most of the 64MB versions of the FX5200 only have a 64-bit memory bus, as opposed to the 128-bit memory in the higher end versions. I very much doubt that the 64-bit versions of the 5200 will be able to catch even the Ti200 in resolutions above 800x600, given that the FX5200 has half the memory bandwidth.
You will have the DX9 features, but you won't be able to use it.
The FX5200 Ultra will probably outperform the Ti200, but it probably won't be cheaper.
As for me, I'm not particularly worried. I've got a 9500 Pro in this rig and it's more than enough for me.

For a machine with a 1ghz PCU.. seems like overkill

Yeah there was an article on Tom's hardware that showed the Gf4 Ti dint make much difference until you had a better CPU. Think this is it.

Still you have to be very careful you don't get the 64-bit memory bus model.
Those will NOT match a Ti200.

Even though the Geforce FX line is about where I generally would upgrade (speaking of generations, having gone from TNT to Geforce to Geforce3 ti200), I didn't have to think too long before rejecting the FX.
You should be good to go with the GF3 ti200.
