Hi. When ever I boot up my computer I an error message (attached to this post). It says to the effect that the computer has detected a conflict with an IP address and that the interface has been disabled. I noticed that this started after I switched my DSL ISP from Covad to SBC. I changed the modems (SpeedStream) also. I would really like to get rid of this message. Can anyone help me?
Thanxs in advanced! :D

You may get more help if you put this in the Networking and Internet forum. In the meantime, did you use a router with the old and new modems? I'd suggest first connecting the modem directly to your PC, booting up and pinging your ISP (or simply launching your browser), then shut down and attach the router. If you still get the message, reset the router while the modem is still connected to it. If you still have problems, maybe call your ISP.

It means that you have a PC on your network with a fixed IP address that's the same as the new one that's trying to be assigned. Check and change all IP addresses or set to automatic.

Right click Network Neighborhood and select Properties. Double-click TCP/IP for the network card. Make sure it's set to Automatic.
Click Start > Run > type in WINIPCFG. Click on Renew All.

192.168.1.1 is usually the default IP for linksys (and other) routers. do you have a router or just a dsl modem?
it looks like you have win9x, so do the winipcfg like BPB said.

I just have a DSL modem, no router. Like you all said I have a Windows 9X, acually Windows ME. I tried the winipcfg thing, i did renew all and rebooted. I still got the error meassage. Then I clicked release all. Still the error message. I checked all the adapter addresses and none of them match the one in conflict. Here's how my Winipcfg looks like.
P.S. I took off my DNS number beaceuse i'm not sure if some one can use it to cause mischief on my computer ;)

that picture doesn't really help since there are no IP addresses in it. are you sure your system is set to obtain IP addresses automatically?
turn off your computer and dsl modem. first, power up the dsl modem. after a minute or two, fire up your pc. hopefully that will reset the IP.
