You were expecting anything less from the altruistic people at Microsoft? I suppose it was a "mistake" ....People will remain in denial about the MS empire until their freedoms are but a memory.

I do not promote Linux because it is superior in so many ways to Windows (though I believe it is superior in many ways), I promote Linux because it is an alternative.

If Linux were the established corporate OS running 90% of desktop computers and a rebelious upstart came along with Windows 9x/2000 do you think for one minute that I would not jump on the Windows bandwagon and promote Windows?

Choice=freedom

You kind of expect that sort of thing from m$ and i suppose nowadays you expect it from mr blair and his new labourites. but it is just ridiculous when they are touting this as the first election in the internet age for the british people and are trying to get the majority of houses online and building britains ecommerce. For them to turn round and do this shows just how clueless, gullible and untrustworthy they really are.
Would it have been any different under any other political party in the UK sadly probably not. They would all jump into bed with any one for a bit of support and cash.

Frankly, I'd hope you support a technology because it works, not because its an alternative.

Owning a horse is an alternative to driving a car but I still promote a car over the horse. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

So, you figure Microsoft rammed these down the government's throat, huh? Based on the posts so far, it seems that no one has ever dealt with a government contract.

The government tells you how it will be... NOT the other way around. The government wants their systems locked down to their own specs. You either comply, or they go to the next in the long line of people who will do it the way it is spec'd. Hmmm... maybe it's the government who has the monopoly afterall.

If you want to bash Microsoft, feel free. But you might want to pick topics that you have some sliver of a chance of sounding like you have a reasonable argument.

Do you think the government orders tanks with user-replacable barrels based on what the user likes to shoot?

Whoops - I posted without realizing the original source was "The Register."

Sorry - it didn't even warrant a reply <grin>
