Hi.
I have a Hotmail account that has been hacked and the hacker sent a mail to my friend using my account.
We opened the mail then View---> Source.
It opened source in Notepad.
The question is the following: How can I know the IP Address ? coz as i know, when receiving an e-mail, the IP of the sender is definitely included (may be in the SOURCE).
Any help is highly appreciated.

I do not beleive that it would show the IP of the person that sent the email. It might show the server that sent the email, but not the computer that was used to fill in the info for the email.
So correct me if I am wrong but you would just see the HotMail server IP, if that.

doh.
chubtub - you will never find the source IP address from the source. Maybe if you have Outlook...
Anyway, you classify wrongly. Using your password (which is far too easy to break) is not hacking....thats just you been daft.

Not at all.
I was in a network Cafe using internet. I was checking my mail coz i was expecting an important E-mail. I think that the PC was containing a Backdoor or a Keylogger.
By the way DocEvi1, my passowrd was 16 characters ,combinaition of letters and numbers and it is Impossible to guess it.
Also, secret question and answer were totally not related to each others. That's why, my pass hasn't been guessed...

or maybe you checked the box - rememeber me.... Using mail in Cafe's are asking for trouble.
Glad to hear someone has had sense and used a decent password....Hear that excuse far to often.
What did you plan to do with the IP address anyway, it is unlikely you could trace it.

Hi DocEvi 1.
Thanks for your reply. Well, no i didn't check the box "remember me", that's for sure. Concerning the IP address , There are plenty of softwares that allow you to find out if this is a local IP (local ISP)or not . This way, I can know that who did it isn't a strange person...

Nope but you do get what server it was sent from, which can be resolved to an IP.
It does not matter in this case because the mail is not sent from the computer that was used to write the mail. It was sent from the server that the email was submitted too.
The only way I can see finding a real IP is if HotMail records somewhere the IP of the computer that submited the web form to them to be mailed out. There is no client running on your computer when using HotMail so it will not have the IP of the comp.

I remember reading a long time ago that for every failed login attempt made to a Hotmail account, MS logs the ip address. If this still holds true you *could* try to contact Hotmail Customer Sevice Dept, if it exists, to get the ip #.
