Anyone know the secret to adding a site to search engines? I've read and done what google says to go to add your site to theirs but it's been almost 10 weeks and it still isn't listed. Checked out a program called webposition but it's the trial version and I can't use it for google... Trying to do this as cheap as possible so I thought I would ask you guys before I give up on it.

Thanks in advance.

:t Welcome to Sysopt :t

The problem with google is the listing is huge, pooh, theres more than 3 Billion pages in it's listing - getting yours to the top is impossible.

there are no secrets just common sense. Make sure have your meta-tags set correctly, a good description and filenames similar to the content (i.e. jokes.html for a jokes page). Keep away from frames as well.

The best way I find to get visitors is through word of mouth - make your site worthwhile visiting.

It's not that I am trying to get the postion up, I just want to get it listed. If I even do a direct search it doesn't come up... But other pages with it liked will.. The site is http://www.theamericanrange.com Be gentle this was my first try at this....

funny that - http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=www.theamericanrange.com You are listed.

Site looks ok, personally I don't like the topic too much but then one should not judge. What is impressive is the load time, you have got a nice server there....

Google's spiders follow the links on the pages of well-linked sites, so try searching for similar sites to yours and if the owner can be contacted, suggest putting each other's links on the sites. The more you do that the better. The info between the <title> </title> tags and the Content meta tag info are what shows up in a Google site search.

You could also try listing your site with http://vivisimo.com/ - a new and increasingly popular seach engine that groups search results under headings.
