I messed up my CD Rom somehow trying to get Dial Pad to work. I enabled the Windows Media Player and CD player. Now when I put in a data CD, it shows as an audio CD with a Track 01.cda. Then the Windows Media Player window opens and an error message of "cannot play back file. The format is not supported." shows up.
Does anyone know what I need to do to get the computer back on track. Right now I am in the dog house!

You could use explorer and get back into your CD drive. Either right click on your computer icon and say explore or its called windows explorer under programs in the start menu.

It also sounds like somehow your CD drive is set to auto-detect and it will only detect audio CD's. That may be just as simple as installing the software for you CD drive or something else. I wish I could help more but I'm sort of a novice.

Thanks for the help. Your suggestion is what I was trying to fix also, but this is one of those cases that the cure does not make any rational sense. What fixed the problem was taking off the cable to the CD rom disk and reinstalling it.
