I haven't had this option working on my computer for quite some time now. I forgot about it until I used my wifes laptop to visit Sysopt, while on vacation, and saw this once loved feature working. Do I have to change any settings in Explorer to enable it? I am using Win 98se, a fresh install after dumping ME. It wasn't working with ME and now still dosn't work with 98se. I want my red folders back. Please someone help me.

I this is sometimes caused by an out of date or corrupt cookie, and it can be resolved by resetting your cookie on the preferences (http://www.sysopt.com/cgi-bin/forum/ubbmisc.cgi?action=setprefs) page.

I do have cookies enabled and just went and reset my preferences. The funny thing is that the yellow light bulbs work when there is a new post in a particular forum but no red folders showing which posts are new. I have full ubb code enabled should that be set to basic? It's difficult trying to keep track of what's been posted .

IE5/6?
Try going into Tools / Internet Options / Temporary Internet files - Settings, Check for newer versions of stored pages "Every visit to the page" option.

Thanks Socalgal I made the change to the setting. I also made another discovery. I changed this before Socalgal's tip. Changed the perference for displaying pages since last visit from 10 days to 5 days and the red folders came back. Never changed this setting before, I always used the default setting. Maybe my red folders are here to stay at last.

Ok im still having problems. The red folders will display if I set my topic view to either 2 or 5 days in preferences. After I save my preferences and view the forums, all topics will show for the days selected, 2 or 5 and the folders work just fine. Now if I close the browser and open a new one then return to Sysopt my preference for viewing previous posts is defaulting to 10 days and no red folders will display. When I check my preferences it is still set to 2 or 5 days (have tried both). My name and password are being saved and the UBB code option is also being saved . The yellow or clear lightbulb option for new posts in individual forums works fine too. I figured out how to see the red folders. Now how do I get the number of topics shown on the page to load as set in my preferences. Im almost there, a little more help please.

Just found out that The topics to be shown from the last 2 days will correct itself after posting replies but still defaults to 10 days when opening forums in a new browser. I don't get it, why wont that perticular preference stick? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

Now Im at work and opened the forum and the page loads with show topics from the last 10 days as the pages setting when my preferences are set to 2 days. At the 10 day and 20 day settings I cant see the red folders. At 2 or 5 days everything works fine. Whats up. Could it be that Im being sent the wrong or corrupt cookies? This is a different ISP at work and a different system. I would like to get this function back but I will live with no red folders if need be.

I just did a fresh install of 98se ran Windows update and installed all the patches and the IE5 service pack. I dont know what else to do but live with it. Its just a minor iritation, nothing that would ever make me stop coming back. I have been keeping track of threads by looking at the links that I have viewed and viewing replies and posts above them. Not a perfect solution but it does help. What I dont understand is the cookies keep track of everything, all the other options except the new posts since last visit and the number of days to view from my preferences.

Ive had the same problem forever, the way ive gotten around it after doin all the "fixes" is to enter from the Sysopt startpage and select "forums", I get red folders everytime using this method...

Thats my standard way of entering Sysopt. I like checking out the new stories and reviews before entering the forum. I think I will try it the other way around and see if that works.

I've also had this problem for some time. What I do is I go into preferences as soon as I hit the forum, then select submit, it takes me back to the forum with the red folders enabled.

I guess I will just have to live with this little glitch. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I will probably use the "preferences passthru method" to enable this function. This is the name I gave to waferdogs solution. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
